Hi, I'm Matteo
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Rome, Italy.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a whole new chapter of life abroad.
The Beginning
Moving to Italy wasn’t in the grand plan. As with many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more substantial.
The opening months were challenging — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Daily tasks seemed more tangled than expected.
The Changeover Phase
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But slowly, routines formed. We discovered places that worked for us, met other families, and started building something that felt stable.
Why I Created Canvas Opal Pixel
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Italy.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever a true change occurs
This site isn't:
- A tourism board resource
- Paid-review platform
- A generic travel blog
Moving Forward
Our stay in Italy goes on, as does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue recording what we find.
